A CITY hairdressers has been hit by a late-night vandal – dressed as a superhero.

The Hair Company on Kirkgate was attacked in the early hours of Saturday, April 16.

Owner Francis Fiddes said she arrived to open the shop on Saturday morning to find one of its toughened glass windows in pieces.

She called the police, and they found CCTV footage showing two men, one dressed as Batman, punch the walls of the next door building before “Batman” headbutted The Hair Company’s window, smashing the glass.

Miraculously she said he did not appear to be injured by the attack and there was no sign of blood on the shattered glass.

Ms Fiddes said: “The CCTV showed Batman staggering backwards after he headbutted the window but I am surprised he didn’t knock himself out. It’s toughened glass.”

Francis and twin sister Sarah Mercer, who have owned the business for just over a year, said takings have dropped after the attack and they are facing a hefty bill for the repairs.

“With the window boarded up people think the shop is closed. It’s affecting the business,” she said.

“We are having to go through the insurance company to get it repaired and it is taking a long time.

“The window could cost up to £800 to replace .”

Police are waiting to speak to an 18-year-old suspect over the attack.
