Harrogate Magistrates Court: weekly roundup

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 5:

Ian Charles McLean, 50, of Flat 4, 15 South Drive, Harrogate, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for possession of skunk cannabis at his home address. He was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs. Magistrates ordered that the drug be forfeited and destroyed.

Alex Packer, 45, of 124 King Edward’s Drive, Harrogate, was given a four-week curfew for failing to comply with a previous community order imposed for smashing a front door window and assaulting a woman by beating her.

Charles James Rudd, 33, of HMP Humber, Beck Road, South Cave, East Riding of Yorkshire, was given a four-week concurrent prison sentence for stealing meat and alcohol worth £27.11 from the Co-op in Ripon Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £18 and a victim surcharge of £80.

Martin Gursky, 41, of 8 Lickley Street, Ripon, was disqualified from driving for 25 months for driving while under the influence of alcohol in Kirby Hill, Boroughbridge. The disqualification will be reduced by 25 weeks on completion of an approved course. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85.

Craig Steven Kilkenny, 25, of 4 The Avenue, Pateley Bridge, was fined £160 for driving while under the influence of alcohol in The Drive, Pateley Bridge. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 20 months, to be reduced by 20 weeks on completion of an approved course. No separate penalty was imposed for charges of failing to stop when required to do so by a police officer, driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Andrew John Ryan, 37, of Flat 2, 115 East Parade, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for stealing a bottle of Boss Orange Man aftershave, an electric shaver and a Wahl Pro Clipper, worth £126.98, from Boots in Harrogate. 
He was also convicted of stealing a pair of Armani brown cord trousers worth £160 from The House in Cheltenham Crescent, Harrogate, on the same date, and carrying a pair of wire cutters in connection with the thefts. 
Magistrates also convicted him of stealing bottle of Kenmore Whiskey worth £22 from Marks and Spencer in Beech Avenue, Harrogate, and stealing alcohol from the One Stop Shop in Harrogate, for which he was instructed to pay compensation of £4.50. He was ordered to undergo treatment for drug dependency for six months and to complete 40 hours of unpaid work.

Leah Bowker, 23, of 39 Marhill Road, Blackpool, was given a six-month conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly in Market Place East, Ripon. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Alistair Alexander, 23, of Flat 1, 15 Hyde Park Road, Harrogate, was ordered to complete a further six hours of unpaid work for failing to comply with a previous community order, which included 200 hours of unpaid work. He was instructed to pay costs of £40.

Robert Martin Dawes, 30, of 81 Wedderburn Road, Harrogate, was given a two-year community order for assaulting a woman by beating her. He was instructed to carry out 40 hours’ unpaid work and to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

Victoria Caroline Fletcher, 38, of 8 Castley Lane, Leathley, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for assaulting a man and a woman in Leathley by beating them. She was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Ross Layne Garry, 26, of 11 Ashfield Road, Harrogate, was given an 18-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months for causing actual bodily harm by assaulting a man. He was ordered to complete a Thinking Skills programme and carry out 100 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates imposed compensation of £300, a victim surcharge of £115 and costs of £85. A concurrent four-week sentence, also suspended for 18 months, was imposed for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on June 28:

Christopher Ian Dalton, 33, of 7 The Mews, Princess Road, Ripon, was given a six-month conditional discharge for stealing meat from the Co-op in Elm Road, Ripon. He was ordered to pay compensation of £20 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Benjamin Robert Donnelly, 29, of Flat 2, Brandon Lodge, 3 Lancaster Park Road, Harrogate, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for stealing a crate of Stella Artois from My Local in Knaresborough Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £10 and a victim surcharge of £15. For stealing two bottles of Smirnoff vodka from the Co-op in King Edward’s Drive, he was ordered to pay compensation of £38.

Patrick Sean Mason, 25, of Flat 4, 5-7 Stockwell Lane, Knaresborough, was given a 12-week curfew for stealing Smirnoff vodka worth £14 from Marks and Spencer in Cambridge Street, Harrogate. For possession of diamorphine, he was ordered to pay costs of £85 and to forfeit the drugs which magistrates ordered should be destroyed.

Filip Jakub Bovis, 32, of Apartment 14, Westmoreland House, Westmoreland Street, Harrogate, was fined £130 for being drunk and disorderly in Commercial Street, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.

Chloe Rose Palfryman, 19, of 9D, 9 West Cliffe Grove, Harrogate, was given a three-month conditional discharge for stealing a purse and contents worth £50 from a woman at the library in King Street, Pateley Bridge. She was ordered to pay compensation of £40 and costs of £85.

Kerry Anne Brooker, 27, of 35 Walby Close, Woodchurch, Wirral, was fined £120 for driving while under the influence of alcohol in Silver Street, Masham. She was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30, and was disqualified from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 18 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Jacek Matuszewski, 36, of Nidd Hall Hotel, Town Street to Nidd Hall, Nidd, was given a six-month conditional discharge for assaulting a man by beating him at the Moko Lounge in Kings Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £100, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.

John Robert Scott, 19, of 9 St Wilfrid’s Place, Ripon, was given a six-month conditional discharge for damaging two tyres on a Citroen Picasso in Southgate, Ripon. Magistrates imposed a restraining order preventing him from entering the street and from contacting the victim. He was ordered to pay compensation of £100, a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.
