A homeowner whose prized Leylandii was destroyed when a grey BMW left the road and crashed through his hedge, said the car’s occupants are “lucky to be alive”.

Ken Reeves, 68, of Wormald Green, said he was woken by a loud bang in the early hours of the morning as the car, which he said must have flown up to 60ft in the air after hitting a verge, landed in his garden.

Police confirmed the passenger and driver of the car, both from Ripon, were found.
