A SUSPECTED arson attack has destroyed 2,500 sq m of grass land at Brimham Rocks.
The fire was started just before 5pm on Saturday, April 16 in the grass and heather close to the visitors’ car park at the site near Summerbridge.
Police were called in to close the road to Ripon for around an hour and three quarters because of smoke caused by the flames.
Three fire engines, including one from Ripon, and firefighters with hose reels and fire beaters tackled the flames for more than two hours.
Firefighters could not find the cause of the blaze but because of its location they believe it was started deliberately.
