A RIPON woman is facing trial accused of setting fire to her housing association flat with intent to endanger the lives of other occupants of the block.

Theresa Frances Hunt, 54, appeared before Harrogate magistrates on Monday facing two offences said to have been committed on Saturday, February 18. She did not enter a plea to either.

Hunt is accused of committing arson at 15 Allhallowgate, Ripon, causing damage to a value unknown, intending to endanger the life of other residents in the block of flats, and being reckless as to whether the life of another would be endangered.

She was sent for trial at York Crown Court and will make an initial appearance there on Monday.

Hunt is also accused of using racially aggravated behaviour causing harassment, alarm or distress. This case can only be dealt with by magistrates and she was bailed to return to the court on March 12.

But her solicitor Geoffrey Rogers made no application for bail on the arson charge and Hunt was remanded in custody until the crown court hearing.
