Two Ripon couples are setting off on another adventure as they prepare to embark on a second banger rally.
To raise money for Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa, Phil and Gillian Moorhouse and Phil and Jill Scaife are taking part in the Czecheap Challenge from Thursday, May 22, a banger rally which ends in Prague and takes in Bruges in Belgium, Frankfurt in Germany and Innsbruck in Austria.
Last year the couples took part in the Banger Rally Challenge from Calais to Barcelona and raised more than £2,800 for the Willow Foundation, which organises special days for seriously ill young adults.
This year they have formed Team Purple Turkey and have used a pirate theme to decorate their car.
Gillian said: “Our car certainly turns some heads when we drive around town. We have decorated the bonnet with a hand-painted treasure map.”
They chose Martin House Children’s Hospice as their cause because a family member who has a mentally and physically disabled child benefits from excellent respite care there several times each year. The couples have also taken part in some pre-banger challenges, including giving blood, becoming an organ donor, being retweeted by a celebrity and offsetting their carbon footprint.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can do so at Team Purple Turkey’s Just Giving page, www.justgiving.com/Team-Purple-Turkey
People can also donate funds by selecting a square on the treasure map at the Royal Oak pub on Kirkgate which is supporting their fund raising efforts.
