Parking permits for Ripon residents to use the city’s off-street car parks are set to nearly quarduple in price.
Harrogate Borough Council has been reviewing the costs of residents’ parking permit, which allow 24 hours, seven days a week parking, and has decided to increase the cost from £16 per annum (4p per day) to £60 (16p per day) – an increase of 275 per cent.
Coun Alan Skidmore, cabinet member for planning, transport and economic development, said: “In the council’s off-street car parks, qualifying residents are given permits to park in bays for which there is a parking charge.
“I have made this decision to be fair and equitable to other car park users who pay considerably more.”
The council’s scheme of residents’ parking permits will be reviewed on an annual basis. It should not be confused with North Yorkshire County Council’s on-street parking scheme where, in general, residents’ permits apply on streets where parking space might be affected by nearby facilities like hospitals or free disc parking.
