Gordon explores the ‘two faces’ of January’s weather and looks at prospects for the week ahead.

Generally very cold with a good deal of dry weather, apart from occasional snow or sleet showers especially over the North Yorkshire Moors. More prolonged snowfalls are possible later in the week. Severe overnight frosts, down to 21F (-6C) or much lower over any snowcover. Day temperatures just above freezing.
