The Olympic Flame is to pass through Ripon before next summer’s London games.
The torch relay will reach the city on June 19, the 32nd day of its trip round the UK, as it travels from Hull to York.
The following day it will journey from York to Carlisle, passing through Thirsk, Northallerton, Aiskew, Bedale and Leyburn.
Ripon’s MP Julian Smith has welcomed the news.
He said: “I am delighted that the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Ripon next year in the run-up to the London 2012 Games.
“It is vitally important that North Yorkshire residents feel part of the Olympic experience and bringing the Torch to Ripon will help.
“I hope that there will be a good turn out next year to see those lucky enough to be Torchbearers carry the Olympic Flame on its journey from Greece to London.”
The torch relay’s route was announced today, with exact details to its path yet to be revealed.
