RIPON is all shiny and new after a community-led effort to give the city a spring clean ready for the tourist season.
Work has been taking place throughout March and ended on Sunday, April 1, when small groups of volunteers each spent up to an hour putting finishing touches to the bus/coach and car parks.
Anthony Blackburn, owner of Philip Hall department store on Fishergate, helped co-ordinate the events.
He said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported the Cleaner City Campaign and look forward to doing it again next year.”
The Cleaner City Campaign was launched in 2011 in a bid to get Ripon looking its best in time for the start of the tourism season at Easter and Mr Blackburn said year-on-year there were signs things were improving.
He said: “While we still have some black spots, this year the city was a lot cleaner than last year so hopefully this is a sign people are taking a little bit more care.
“Throughout the year there is going to be a focus on keeping the city tidy in order that we create the right first impression to visitors.
“A lot of time and effort has gone into tidying up the city so I would urge everyone to use our litter bins rather than dropping rubbish on the floor – it would be sad if all that hard work goes to waste.”
This year’s campaign was bolstered by members of the Rotary Club of Ripon who tidied up on the western side of the city.
