A HARROGATE solicitor whose home was besieged by bats is helping a church solve its own problems with the creatures.

Jonathan Mortimer, who works at Raworths in Harrogate, has taken up a case on behalf of St Hilda’s Church in Ellerburn near Pickering, which has had to suspend services for the first time in more than 1,000 years.

Mr Mortimer recently obtained a licence to remove bats from his house. St Hilda’s wants to get rid of bat roosts which have been there for 10 years.

“The endangered species here is not the bats but the congregation,” he said.
