Ripon Air Cadet Flight Sergeant Jonathan Coates is celebrating getting his private pilot’s licence.
The 18-year-old from 886 City of Ripon Squadron won the National Flying Scholarship Award from the RAF Association (RAFA) which gave him a course of flying training.
He graduated from South Warwickshire Flying School last week as a qualified private pilot.
Jonathan, who this year completed his A-levels at Ripon Grammar School, beat off competition from all over the UK for the scholarship which was presented to him by the RAF’s Head of Personnel, Air Marshal Andy Pulford.
Jonathan said: “The flying this summer has been a great experience and has really enhanced my ambitions to become a professional pilot.
I have learnt so much thanks to the fantastic instruction given to me.”
