VIDEO: It’s four months to go as GYS 2013 ticket sale launch
Tickets for this year’s Great Yorkshire Show are about to go on sale, four and a half months before England’s biggest agricultural show comes to Harrogate once again.
The 155th show will kick off on July 9, 2013, a year after disastrous weather caused the vents first ever cancellation in its 175 year history, and ticket sales will open tomorrow, Friday, March 1.
This year the show’s organisers have already set £500,000 aside to make sure it does not fall victim to bad weather.
Nigel Pulling, Chief Executive said: “We never want to be in that situation again, it was heartbreaking to have to cancel the show, so we’ll be doing as much as we can to maintain what is the country’s finest farming showcase.
“Groundworks are already underway to put in extra roadways, drainage systems and hard standing around car park gateways. In addition we are looking at acquiring a number of pieces of land to boost our car parking capacity. We obviously can’t control the weather but we will be doing our level best to make the show as ‘weatherproof’ as we can.”
Schedules for livestock classes have already begun to be issued and entries are starting to arrive, Show Director Bill Cowling said.
And trade stand bookings are standing up well even though many traders lost two days of business in last year’s event, he added.
This year’s show will boast The Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team – The White Helmets in the main ring.
Tickets are available either at www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk from 01423 541222 or in person from the Show’s office at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.
