Tickets for the 156th Great Yorkshire Show will go on sale this week.

The three-day event in Harrogate, highlighting the best of British farming and country life, takes place from Tuesday July 8 to Thursday July 10.

Last year more than 135,000 visitors came through the gates of the showground to enjoy everything from fashion shows to food tastings, and from top class show jumping to sheep shearing and pole climbing.

Animals remain the main focus of the event with classes for cattle, sheep, pigs and horses at the heart of the action. More than 1,000 cattle will be competing for the prestigious awards and for the first time in the show’s history there will be classes for British White cattle, one of the UK’s oldest breeds.

Also new to the event are competitions for female sheep shearers.

The fashion shows held four times daily in the Skipton Building Society Pavilion, will feature both collections from national high street names as well as from up-and-coming designers from the region’s colleges.

In the show ground’s main ring, entertainment will be provided by Lorenzo, the equestrian dynamo, and the Yorkshire Volunteers Band. The event also includes one of Britain’s largest cheese and dairy shows.
