A COMPANY from Knaresborough has been playing a major part in one of Europe’s biggest construction projects.

Logic Fire and Security provided fire protection and a public address voice alarm system at Crossrail’s Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA), a purpose-built training facility in tunnel excavation, underground construction and infrastructure.

The academy is part of a £60 billion underground urban metro service project that will link Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east via 21km of new twin-bore tunnels under central London.

The largest construction currently taking place outside China - and the largest addition to the south east rail network in 50 years - the scheme is in its early stages, with completion expected by 2018.

Sean McPartland, who founded Logic with his brother Andy in 2001, said the contract with Crossrail paved the way for greater involvement in the project over the next eight years.

“Our aim is to secure the contract to supply the bulk of the fire and security systems for the entire scheme to create what could potentially become the largest fire alarm network in Europe,” he said.
