Top jobs for young chefs, Darlington College students Chris York and Ruth Bentley watched over by tutor Becci Dougill
A TALENTED Bedale chef is hoping to cook up a storm after being offered work experience in some of the capital’s finest eateries.
Darlington College catering student Ruth Bentley is taking up a position at Gordon Ramsey’s Savoy Grill. Chris York and Ruth Bentley are to take up positions in two of London’s most prestigious restaurants to help hone their culinary skills.
The 17-year-old said: “I have been to the Savoy before and thought it was incredible.”
“I never imagined when I contacted them that they would offer me a place.
“It means so much to me to go from a small town like Bedale to one of the biggest and best hotels in London and learn from a Michelin starred chef.
“It is actually a bit overwhelming, I mean the Queen has eaten there before, but it is such a great opportunity.”
Ruth will be joined by fellow student Chris York who will be working with internationally renowned chef Bruce Poole at his Wandsworth based restaurant Chez Bruce – originally made famous by Marco Pierre White.
Tutor Becci Dougill said: “This is the first time two of our students have been offered work placements in such prestigious restaurants and they have arranged it all by themselves.
“Both Chris and Ruth will now have the chance to see how a top kitchen is run and get a real insight into what it means to be a chef.”
