Ambitious plans to boost Ripon’s economy by employing a dedicated city manager are being pursued by the city council.
Councillors stuck to their decision to increase Ripon’s parish precept by 35 percent to fund the post at a meeting on Monday, January 16.
The precept request will now be passed to Harrogate Borough Council, and council tax bills across Ripon will rise to cover the cost.
Councillors also discussed the make-up of an interview panel to find the city manager, in the hope that there will be a city development manager at work within the next few months.
Councillors hope appointing a city manager will help build business and tourism in the city and surrounding areas, and the scheme has the backing of Ripon’s MP Julian Smith.
