A Harrogate mum has beaten redundancy by swapping maternity leave for the challenge of launching her own pram and babywear boutique.

Anna Reed gave birth to son George just last summer, but after only a few months of enjoying being a first-time mum, her bubble was burst when she was told she was to lose her job.

Undeterred, and with her baby at her side, she had what she describes as her “lightbulb moment” and founded the Little Star Co, which has now opened on Westmoreland Street.

“My husband and I had to travel miles to find the pram we wanted and many of the experiences we had shopping for baby products were very impersonal,” she said.

“It’s such a special and important purchase and there just wasn’t anywhere local offering this, especially with the recent closure of Mothercare in Harrogate.

“Every product we stock has been handpicked by a mum for mums – and dads! – and our aim is to offer practical and stylish baby products, prams and gifts with a friendly and personal service.

“It’s been a real challenge juggling the launch of a new business with a new baby, but he’s been great testing our products and I’m so proud of what we have achieved.”
