Makeover for Masham restaurant

A POPULAR Masham restaurant has reopened after undergoing a major face-lift.

Vennell’s opened its doors to customers on Thursday, February 9, to show off a new look.

The eating place, which was set up by Jon and Laura Vennell in 2005, had been transformed into “a restaurant to be proud of,” Laura said.

“We are very proud of the success we have had at Vennell’s over the past seven years, however, we always felt we didn’t get the restaurant decor quite right.”

“We have award winning food, and we were serving it in average surroundings,” she said.

Jon added: “Some customers and critics said our old beige walls, beige carpet and beige curtains were more suited to a posh Auntie’s living room than a restaurant.”

“We’ve really taken all the feedback on board, and this time feel like we’ve added a bit of our own personality too.”

Bedale designers James and Julie Dow from Forge Interiors were behind the new interior.

“From the second James walked in it was clear our restaurant didn’t impress,” said Laura.

“He immediately said ‘Why is the bar downstairs? It should be on the ground level.’ He felt we were missing an opportunity for passing trade to see the buzz of the restaurant – we’d hidden a lot of it in the basement.”

Now the restaurant boasts a ground floor bar, colourful decoration and comfortable chairs. After a month-long makeover it reopened with a special champagne and canapes event, and is now open Tuesday - Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes.
