A Harrogate woman is to cycle 217 miles across Tanzania to raise money for three cancer charities this autumn with fundraising support from Newtons Solicitors.
Trainee clinical psychologist Colette Kon will be among 100 UK women to cycle from Kilimanjaro to the Ngorongoro Crater in October in temperatures up to 30 degrees.
Colette, who will cycle with two Harrogate friends, Trudy Lennon and Sylvia Scullion, aims to raise £1,700 by August to support three cancer charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
Ms Kon has already raised £800, and Knaresborough-based Newtons Solicitors is donating a futher £500 to sponsor the ride.
Ms Kon is currently training hard, cycling up to 44 miles at a time and running six miles three times a week.
She said: “I am not actually a very fit, or adventurous person, so this is a real challenge for me but I am determined to do the training so that I will be as prepared as I can be when I get out to Tanzania.
“I’m really grateful to Newtons Solicitors for their help which provided a real boost with the fundraising.”
