A group of independent businesses in Ripon have launched the new Phlok loyalty scheme in the city.
Various activities took place throughout the city at the participating businesses on Saturday, April 26, with help from Bob the Builder and the team from the Phlok head office in Northern Ireland.
The national Phlok scheme, which has already been successfully launched in other towns in the area, is designed to reward customers of local independent businesses by giving them points which they can download on their smartphone or PC once they have downloaded the free Phlok app.
The points have a monetary value and they can be used to make purchases in participating businesses by use of their smartphone or a voucher.
Ian Aspinall, the manager of Stuff 4 Offices on Fishergate, said: “The young people seem really keen to collect their points whenever they make a purchase.”
The app is designed to be easy to use and shows you which local businesses are members of the scheme and you can earn extra points by following businesses or checking in when you visit their premises.
Fiona Trees, of Memorable Moments, said: “The independent traders involved feel that this scheme gives them the opportunity to get involved as a community team and to give something back to the customers who support local independent businesses.”
On Saturday, children were excited to have Bob the Builder in town and to have their photographs taken with him. The retailers also provided free face-painting on Market Place, which also proved to be very popular despite the changeable weather.
There was also a treasure hunt involving the participating business which people can complete up to Saturday, May 3, with one lucky person winning a prize.
