A HOSPICE charity is offering an unusual scenic treat this Mother’s Day.

Herriot Hospice Homecare is chartering an afternoon ride on the Wensleydale Railway on Sunday, March 18.

The Mothering Sunday special will take a scenic return tour through Wensleydale, from Leeming Bar to Redmire, near Leyburn.

The picturesque views will be accompanied by relaxing music and a delicious afternoon tea of scones, sandwiches and cakes, with funds raised going to Herriot Hospice Homecare’s work providing care to terminally-ill patients who wish to remain in their own homes in Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Helen Murphy, fundraiser for the charity, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, said: “I always ask my mum what she wants for Mother’s Day and every year she says the same thing – surprise me!

“Spending Mother’s Day on a heritage railway while enjoying beautiful spring scenery is the perfect surprise.”

The train will depart from Leeming Bar station at 12.00pm, returning at 2.40pm. Tickets are £20 per adult and £15 for under-16s.
