A father-and-son decorating firm from Harrogate has had a brush with fame after being named the best in the country at a ceremony in Manchester.
Chris Green Painters and Decorators, of Starbeck, was named Johnstone’s Painter of the Year 2013 after wowing the judges and fellow decorators with their work on a Grade II-listed Georgian home on the Stray in Harrogate. They also picked up the award in the “residential” category.
Mr Green said he was “overwhelmed” to have won, adding: “It’s a real honour to have been crowned Johnstone’s Painter of the Year and even more so because the votes came from my peers.”
“Having so many fellow decorators congratulate me was particularly humbling and it’s an experience I’ll never forget.”
Mr Green was also presented with a brand-new, fully branded van. Watching him being given the keys, Andrew Jones, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, said: “I’ve known Chris for many years and I’m delighted that his work has been recognised with this prestigious award. Harrogate, indeed Starbeck, should also be very proud to have the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year as one of its own.”
