Ripon’s parks and flower beds were on show to garden judges and TV crews this week.

The Yorkshire in Bloom judges were in the city inspecting Ripon’s entry into the annual competition.

Volunteers have been working on flower beds, displays and parks around the city in preparation for the judges’ visit.

The city was awarded a Silver Gilt medal last year, the scheme’s second highest honour, the group is hopeful they will be able to match or even exceed that this year.

The judges’ visit began at Ripon Racecourse before moving on to local allotments, roadside displays, the Temple Gardens and city primary schools before finishing at the Spa Gardens.

At the same time, a film crew were on location in the Spa Gardens working on shots for a forthcoming TV advert.

The city’s picturesque gardens has been chosen as the location of a new advert for broadband company Plusnet.

A cherry picker was on site to film the gardens from above, as extras enjoyed the sunshine in deck chairs and Knaresborough Brass Band played from the bandstand.
