Heirlooms from a closed school in Ripon are going under the hammer this week in a bid to sell off its last remaining
The residual contents of Ripon Cathedral Choir School will be auctioned off after the closure of the school in July last year, which followed a breakdown in merger talks with nearby Cundall Manor.
The sale will be held at the former school site on Whitcliffe Lane in Ripon tomorrow (Friday), January 18, from noon. There is also viewing today (Thursday), from 9am-5pm.
Chairman of the Cathedral Choir School trustees Andrew Kitchingman told the Gazette he is unsure how much money the items will fetch on the day of the auction.
“We have absolutely no idea how much money we will raise,” he said.
“We are hopeful of doing well but we genuinely could not say how much we will get.”
There are more than 180 lots of items going on sale including a minibus and a tractor among traditional academic furniture items such as desks and tables.
Visitors will also get the opportunity to bid on books, sports equipment, whiteboards, digital projectors and a fridge freezer.
Managing director of Tennants Auctioneers – who are holding the sale – Jeremy Pattison said he is expecting the minibus to fetch up to £5,000.
“The whole sale is just about getting the best price on the day,” he said.
“There are probably no items of a high value and most of them are more useful, everyday items.
“The minibus and tractor will probably prove to be the more valuable items.”
