Trials of street recycling bins are underway in Bedale and Colburn.

Shoppers are being urged to use the segmented bins for cans, bottles, plastics and paper.

Hambleton and Richmondshire District Council is piloting the use of the bins in two locations in Bedale.

The first will be outside the Co-op and the second will be at the Spar shops in the Market Place.

The bins in Colburn will be in the Broadway and at the Falls Car Park.

The bins will be trialled for six months and depending on their success, and the increase in recycling rates as a result, may be rolled out to other towns across the two districts.
