Award hopes for tourist business

A SELF-catering business near Thirsk has been shortlisted for a prestigious White Rose Award – one of the county’s most-coveted tourism awards.

Old Oak Cottages at Little Thirkleby – in the valley of the White Horse of Kilburn – has made it through to the final of the ‘self-catering, cruisers and serviced apartments’ category.

Winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony on October 1 at Elland Road’s Centenary Pavilion in Leeds.

Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Making it to the shortlist is a huge achievement in itself and they have had to contend with some real quality competition.”
