Angus Deayton, who is best known for his 12-year stint as presenter of comedy news quiz Have I Got News For You, was guest speaker at a sold-out Harrogate Business Luncheon, which was sponsored by Harrogate International Festivals.

The event was the second of the year’s three Business Luncheons and sold out within just 90 minutes. Other recent speakers have included actor Alexander Armstrong and Olympic rower Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE.

Deayton spoke about his experiences in showbusiness, including his work on sitcom One Foot In The Grave, and read – and hilariously – from a handbook detailing what was and was not acceptable to say at the BBC in the 1950s.

The vote of thanks was given by Sharon Canavar, chief executive of Harrogate International Festivals.

The event was organised by Howard Matthews Partnership, Williams Investment Management, Graham Scott of Lloyds TSB Bank plc and the Harrogate Advertiser Series.
