Great Ouseburn Beer Festival: this year’s festival takes place this weekend with the opening event tomorrow from 7-11pm featuring Rockett 88. On Saturday from 1-10pm there is music from Jonny C and the Blue Assassins, Broken Empire and The Blue Kings. The festival is at Great Ouseburn Village Lane, Lightmire Lane, Great Ouseburn and entry is £5 which includes a festival glass and programme. The event includes live bands, raffle, pie and peas, chilli and hotdogs and twenty Yorkshire real ales, cider, wine and lager. There is a climbing wall on Saturday afternoon, the cost is £2 with qualified coaches. The event is a fund raiser for Jenny Ruth Workshops and Great Ouseburn Village Organisation.

Woodworking Demonstration: the John Boddy Timber Store in Boroughbridge has a free demonstration on Saturday with Ted Vickerman on repair and finishing. Sequence dance: there is a sequence dance in the Coronation Hall on Saturday from 7-10.30pm. The admission charge of £2 includes tea and biscuits.

Antiques society: the Boroughbridge Antiques Society meets on Tuesday at 7.45pm in the Coronation Hall with Dr Adam Bowell speaking about the London furniture trade in the early eighteenth century. For any more information about the society, please contact 01423 360711.

The Stars and Beyond: the Boroughbridge and District branch of the RNLI invites people to Boroughbridge to the Stars and Beyond, an illustrated talk by Dr Fred Stevenson BSc, PhD, next Thursday, October 17 in the Crown Hotel Boroughbridge, 7pm for 7.30pm. Tickets are £7.50 to include a glass of wine or students under 18, £6 with a soft drink. For tickets please call 01765 640990 or 01423 325190. There will be a raffle and all proceeds are for saving life at sea.

Springfield Garth coffee morning: Springfield Garth is holding a coffee morning next Saturday, October 19 from 10.30am with a cake stall and raffle. Cream teas will be served during the morning and proceeds are for the residents’ amenity fund. All are most welcome.

From Russian with Love: the St Paulinus Singers are performing From Russia with Love, a choral and organ concert featuring music from Russia, France, England and the USA, conducted by Sam Gardner, organist Ashley Valentine, in St James Church, Boroughbridge, next Saturday, October 19 at 7.30pm. Church services: there is Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am, Harvest festival, followed by a harvest lunch at St James Church at 11am and Children’s Church at Minskip at 11.15am. Boroughbridge Methodist Chruch has Sunday Worship at 10.30am. On Monday there is Holy Communion in Roecliffe Vestry at 11.30am and on Wednesday there are services of Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am and at St James Church at 10.45am. There is a service of Holy Communion at Kirby Hill at 9.30am with the Activ8 club meeting there at 11am. There are Harvest festivals at Cundall at 11am and at Skelton at 6pm.
