Carols and Crafts: St Mary’s Church in Dunsforth has a carols and crafts Christmas gift fair tomorrow (November 23) evening from 4-8pm. Enjoy a glass of Christmas cheer while browsing crafts and gifts in this lovely candlelit setting, listening to carols. All funds raised will go to the restoration of the church organ. Romans in North Yorkshire: this is a talk tomorrow evening (November 23) at 7.30pm in Aldborough Village Hall by Pete Wilson, former English Heritage head of research policy, Roman archaeology. Come and find out about the Romans in North Yorkshire and find answers to at least some of your questions. Did the Romans arrive in North Yorkshire in AD71? How did the Romans get on with the local people? Do the humps and bumps in our countryside tell us anything about the Romans? And what industry and commerce flourished in Roman times? Friends of Roman Aldborough and the under 16s are admitted free, members of Boroughbridge Historical Society £2 and non members £4. You can join on the night and enjoy member benefits. Christmas Fair: Springfield Garth, on the York Road in Boroughbridge, is holding its Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 24 at 2pm. Attractions during the afternoon will include a cake stall, white elephant stall, a tombola, raffle and much more. Everyone is welcome and all profits go to the residents’ amenity fund.
Amblers: the group has a six mile walk at Bolton Abbey and the Strid on Tuesday, November 27 led by Chris Sillman. Please meet in the car park in Back Lane for a 10am start. The group also has a four mile walk at Minskip on Friday, November 30, led by Viv and Barry.
St James Christmas Fair: is next Saturday, December 1 in the church at 10am. Lunch follows on from the fair which includes cakes and jams, books, cards and tombola. There will be Christmas arrangements and the grand raffle. Father Christmas will be in attendance and perhaps there will be mulled wine and mince pies.
Seasonal Music: on Saturday, December 1 at 7pm, in the church of St Mary, Roecliffe, there will be a candlelit concert of seasonal music given by the Chapel Choir of Queen Mary’s School, Topcliffe. Tickets cost £10 per person with children under 12 admitted free. A glass of wine or a soft drink is included in the price. There is a limited number of tickets left for this event so if you are interested in attending please call Jim Bolland on 01423 325091. Based on the last concert in the church by this choir three years ago, the organisers are sure you will enjoy the experience.

Boroughbridge Methodist Church has Sunday Worship at 10.30am. There is a service of Morning Prayer at Cundall at 9.30am, Holy Communion at Kirby Hill at 11am and a Family Service at Skelton at 9.30am. On Wednesday there are services of Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am and at St James Church at 10.45am.
