Yorkshire Countrywomen: the Boroughbridge branch of the Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association meets this evening at 7.30pm in the Jubilee Suite above Boroughbridge Library. This month the guest speaker is Jean Yorston who will talk about cycling in France. For further details please phone 01423 322988 or come along to any meeting.

Sequence Dance: there is a sequence dance on Saturday in the Coronation Hall from 7-10.30pm. The admission charge of £2 includes tea and biscuits.

Holy Hits: on Sunday at 7.30pm in the Coronation Hall, come and sing along to all your favourite hits from Joseph, Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar and listen to some performances of great music on religious themes from members of our community. This is great fun for all the family and a night not to be missed.

Yorevision AGM: will be held on Tuesday at 6.30pm in the Jubilee Room at Boroughbridge Library. 

Minskip Community Field Trust: to follow up on last year’s successful event you can take your partners once again for a barn dance and hog roast supper with live band and caller Green Sleeveless. The event takes place next Saturday, July 20 at Peach Tree Farm, Minskip from 7-11pm. There will be a licensed bar, raffle and children’s bouncy castle. Tickets are £12 for adults, £5 for children and all proceeds will go towards the village field. For tickets please call 01423 324269.

Aldborough and Boroughbridge Show: the Centenary Show takes place next Sunday, July 21 at the Pump Field, Skelton Road in Langthorpe, follow the signs to the venue. The show includes a huge range of entertainment for all the family throughout the day with all the usual attractions of horses, cattle, possibly piglets, dog classes and local hunt and terrier racing. The show also includes classes for artwork, handicrafts, floral art and photography as well as classes for producers and bakers. The children have their own classes with cups to be won and there are classes for the best of the farmers’ crops. Activities include a climbing wall, laser shooting and a barrel ride. There will be locally produced food and drink to suit all tastes, including a hog roast. Trade, charity and voluntary groups will have a range of stalls with the opportunity to find out about local charities and voluntary groups. There will also be a craft tent with local producers of cards, pictures, jewellery, ceramics and toiletries. Special awards will be presented to two local young people starting on farming related careers.

Amblers: later in the month the group has a three and a half to four mile walk, the Bronte Trail, led by Chris S, on Tuesday, July 23. Please meet in the car park in Back Lane for a 10am start. Boroughbridge and District Community Care AGM: will be held in 1 Hall Square, Boroughbridge on Thursday, July 25 at 7.30pm, all are welcome. Any member of the public wishing to join the management committee is asked to contact David on 01423 324504, prior to the meeting.

Church Services: this Sunday there is Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am, a toddlers’ service at Aldborough at 9.10am, Parish Communion at Roecliffe at 10am and St James Celebration Service at St James Church, Boroughbridge at 11am. This service is followed by a buffet lunch, £5. If you know you are definitely coming to the lunch, it would help if you let the organisers know. Please contact 01423 322903. Boroughbridge Methodist Church has Sunday Worship at 10.30am. There are services of Holy Communion at Kirby Hill at 9.30am and at 11am at Cundall with the Activ8 meeting at Kirby Hill. This month is the annual walk, picnic and games. The group meets at 11am for about an hour’s walk before meeting up at the vicarage to share picnics and try out different board games. On Monday there is Holy Communion in Roecliffe Vestry at 11.30am. On Wednesday there are services of Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am and at St James Church, Boroughbridge at 10.45am.
