Literacy and Dyslexia Network: the group’s next meeting is out of our area but a number of local people do attend the meetings. There is a presentation on study skills and exam survival techniques for dyslexic children by Janet Robinson, the principal of Dyslexia Action Harrogate, this evening at 7.30pm at the Children’s Centre on Manor Road in Knaresborough. Community Choir Concert: Boroughbridge Methodist Church has a concert tomorrow from 7-8.30pm by Boroughbridge Community Choir with Kirby Hill School`s Teamstar. The concert is In aid of the community hall fund.

Friday Music Night: the Friday Night is Music Night group meets tomorrow evening when Judith Laity and Geoff Oxley present an evening of vocal duets. Admission is free but booking is essential. There will be a charity collection at the end, charities supported have included Boroughbridge Community Care, Hope and Homes, Jennyruth Workshops, Alne Hall Cheshire Home, NSPCC and MacMillan Cancer Care. RNLI Coffee Morning: the Boroughbridge and District branch of the RNLI is holding a coffee morning on Saturday from 10am-noon in Marton-cum-Grafton Village Hall. Bacon sandwiches and tea and coffee will be served and there will be a raffle, plant stall, cake stall and bric-a-brac. Enjoy listening to Clarry at the piano during the morning. Everyone is welcome and the proceeds go to saving life at sea.

Boroughbridge Church Lunch: Boroughbridge Methodist Church is serving lunch on Saturday. There is a departure from the usual soup and sweet as this time the menu is cottage pie, cake and coffee.

Film Society: the Yore Film Society has a screening of The Painted Veil, a UK romance drama certificate 12, on Tuesday in the Coronation Hall at 8pm. The admission charge is £3 and there is a bar, tea and coffee. For more information contact film@yorevision.org.uk or see www.yorevision.org.uk

Amblers: the group has a four mile walk at Old Byland next Thursday, May 2, led by Viv and Barry. Please meet in the car park in Back Lane for a 10am start. Lifts are available and transport sharing is encouraged. The group has another three walks in May, Shaw Mills on May 13, Grantley and Lumley Moor on May 21 and Hackfall Woods on May 29.

Art Exhibition: St James Church annual art exhibition takes place next weekend with the preview evening on Friday, May 3 at 7pm with wine and finger food and music from the Rallentando Quartet. The exhibition then runs through from Saturday, May 4 to Monday, May 6 in St James Church.

Parish Meeting: Kirby Hill and District Parish Council annual parish meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 7pm in the Coronation Hall. This is open to all electors of the parishes of Kirby Hill, Milby, Ellenthorpe, Humberton and Thornton Bridge. It gives the opportunity to find out more about the work of the council and to raise any topics or ask any questions of the councillors.

Church Services: this Sunday there is a Family Service at Aldborough at 10am, Communion and AGM at St James Church at 10am and Parish Communion at Minskip at 10am. Boroughbridge Methodist Church has Sunday Worship at 10.30am. There is Morning Prayer at Cundall at 9.30am, a Family Service at Skelton at 9.30am and Holy Communion at Kirby Hill at 11am. On Wednesday there is Holy Communion at St James Church at 10.45am.
