A cheque for £1,821 has been presented to Jonny Clapton towards his quest to buy wheelchairs giving him greater mobility.

Jonny, 35, who injured his spinal cord in an accident at work in November, was given the cheque at a buffet and drinks evening at The Black Swan in Ripon.

The pub had previously held a fund raising charity event for Jonny’s fund – first featured in the Ripon Gazette on Augsut 1 – on August 25, which featured a barbecue, maggot racing and a charity auction.

The Ripon Lions had kicked off the auction with a donation of £200 and the group’s president, Eric Clark, acted as auctioneer for more than 40 lots provided by local businesses and tradespeople.

The event and other donations have enabled Jonny to buy a Quickie Helium wheelchair and put down a deposit on a Mountain Trike to give him more mobility on- and off-road.
