ENTRY forms for the 2012 Great Knaresborough Bed Race will be available for downloading from January 1 on the event’s website.
The entry period runs from the start of January to the end of February 2012 and organisers, the Knaresborough Lions, say teams can visit www.knaresborough.co.uk/bedrace to register.
If there are more entries than can be accommodated in the 90-team field, a lottery will be held at the Working Men’s Club on Kirkgate, Knaresborough on March 5.
This year’s theme is Olympic nations, with Bed Race teams set to be allocated one of 90 different countries taking part in the summer Olympics in a draw to be made at the same time as the entry lottery. They will be encouraged to base their decorations on something connected with their designated country, says John Dickson, head of teams liaison for the 2012 Bed Race.
“There should be plenty of scope for the wonderful imagination that has come to characterise the fancy dress pageant part of Bed Race,” he said. “It is a slight departure from the norm but we think allocating a country through a draw will ensure the 2012 event features a wide variety of different displays.
“Other new elements include the cost of entry for junior teams, which has been cut to £60 from £80, while that for adult teams has been increased to £100. This gives a better balance, we feel, as well as helping to offset higher charges for road closures and crowd control.”
