The Barwick in Elmet Horticultural Society held it’s 48th Annual Village Show on Saturday, September 7.

There were 236 entries from 38 different exhibitors, which was an increase on the very poor showing last year.

Trophies were awarded to the following people: Renee Partington, Elmet Shield (Flowers), Rector’s Trophy (Dahlias) and Cookery Cup (Cookery). Bob Cockeram, Scargill Cup (Vegetables), Brett Cup (Flowers & Vegetables) and the Don Rushton Tray (Fruit). Martin Payne, Barwick Cup (Vegetables) and Sedgwick Cup (Onions), Ian Richardson, Williams Cup (Flowers). Peggy Moore, Lily Kitching Trophy (Pot plants). Ann Winter, President’s Vase (Roses).

The National Vegetable Medal was awarded to Martin Payne and the National Vegetable Certificate for Potatoes awarded to Bob Cockeram.

The Top Tray Award went to 1st Bob Cockeram, 2nd Roger Gamble and Top Vase awarded to Carolyn Cockeram.

Children’s Painting age four to seven, 1st Henry Verity, 2nd William Harrison, 3rd Jamie Watson. Children’s Artwork age 8 to 11, 1st Lily Hawkhead, 2nd Eleanor Slater, 3rd Lilia Geier Thomson. Lily Hawkhead was also awarded the Norman Pollard Trophy.

A Vegetable Animal was won by Lilia Geier Thomson, 2nd Nikolas Geier Thomson.

Geoff Thornton Show Secretary said “We have opened up the show this year to everyone and hope that in future we will attract a wider participation”.
