A DEDICATED Army radio station has started transmitting at Ripon’s Claro Barracks.

Garrison FM launched its Ripon service with a live outside broadcast from the city’s famous Pancake Races, and since February 21 has been broadcasting to soldiers and Army families at the barracks.

The radio station relays its programmes from Catterick Garrison into Claro Barracks on 1287AM, 24 hours a day.

Garrison FM proprietor Mark Page said he hopes the radio will help the servicemen and women of 21 Engineer Regiment based in Ripon feel included in Catterick Garrison. He also hopes the broadcasts will be a boost to service families when Garrison FM links up with Afghanistan during deployments expected later this year.
