Tennis fans have raised £900 for charity at a tournament in Ripon.

The competition on Sunday, June 5 at Ripon Tennis Centre was organised by charity fundraisers the Acorn Committee in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Twenty-three couples entered the competition with Chantal Lancaster and Neil Wigham eventually beating Janet Burton and Judith Thompson in the final.

Acorn Chairman Louise Hanen said, “We were delighted with the number of entries for the tournament and it was wonderful to have so much support for this event. A big thank you must go to all who helped make the day a really happy occasion.”

The tournament was held in memory of Jim Jackson, a keen tennis player who helped to develop the club at Ripon and later died of Alzheimer’s.

The winners’ trophy was donated by his widow, Janet Burton who is also a keen player and who competed on the day.

Ripon Tennis Centre donated their facilities on the day and raffle prizes included tennis lessons from their three coaches.

The next Acorn event is the annual Golf Day to be held at Alwoodley Golf Club on Friday, September 9. More information at www.acorncharity.org.uk.
