A KIRKBY Malzeard man has raised more than £3,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research in memory of his wife.

After his wife, Marion, died just over a year ago, Mac Tattersall decided to raise funds for the charity by holding a quiz night in the village, helped by his two sons.

It proved a huge success, with local businesses donating prizes and more than 200 people supporting the event to raise a grand total of £3,105.

“It was a great night and I’m really pleased with how it went,” said Mr Tattersall. “I always said I wasn’t out to make thousands, so it went above all expectations. Cancer affects a lot of families so the community really clubbed together.”

Mr Tattersall says he has more fundraising events planned for the year ahead.

Jenny Moss, of the Ripon Branch of Yorkshire Cancer Research, who accepted the cheque, said they were very grateful. “This was a tremendous effort. We rely on people like Mac to support our work.”
