A young gardener has been picked for the final of a prestigious competition.

John Foley, who with his partner Kate Lawson, from Leyburn, runs the Clough Nursery is in the running to become the BBC Young Gardener of the Year.

The 24-year-old studied Horticulture at Askham Bryan College where he met Kate who was studying animal management.

The couple set up Clough Nursery near Clitheroe in Lancashire three years ago.

In July this year the nursery featured on BBC Gardeners World when John and Kate won their first RHS Gold Award at RHS Tatton Park Flower show.

John will find out if he has been successful on Sunday, February 12 when the programme will be aired on BBC3 at 8pm.
