A Thirsk pub has won acclaim for the quality and standards of its toilets, by achieving the highest possible rating in the Loo of the Year Awards 2011.

The Three Tuns in Market Place has been awarded a five star rating by independent inspectors.

The annual awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provision across the UK..

All of the inspected toilets are graded from one star to the maximum five star rating.

Authorised inspectors make unannounced visits to more than 1,500 toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.

They are measured against criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessible facilities, hygiene equipment and overall management and customer care.

The Three Tuns, a Wetherspoon pub, is managed by Matt Creighton.

He said: “I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

The Loo of the Year Awards Managing Director, Mike Bone, said: “The toilets at The Three Tuns are extremely good and the pub deserves its five stars.”
