Yorkshire legends jokes under the hammer
Jimmy Savile book cover. (S)
Jokes from two Yorkshire legends are to go under the hammer to raise funds for a Ripon school.
The favourite jokes of Sir Jimmy Savile and England cricketer Sir Ian Botham will be auctioned off at a comedy night featuring two hit Edinburgh Fringe acts.
The money raised from the evening will help fund equipment at Ripon Grammar School.
A mounted, hand-written and signed joke by Sir Jimmy Savile, who died in October last year is the top prize in the charity auction at the Comedy and Curry Night in Bishop Monkton Village Hall on Saturday, April 28.
It is being paired with a signed first copy of a new biography of the DJ, TV personality and charity fundraiser by Yorkshire writer Alison Bellamy.
A second favourite joke, signed by former England test cricketer Sir Ian Botham, who lives in North Yorkshire, is also up for grabs during the evening which will feature stand-up comedian Iszi Lawrence and the award-winning Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppets.
Tickets for the event, to include a curry meal with dessert, cost £18. There will also be a bar.
Please contact Jane Robinson on 01423 772459 for tickets.
