Ripon’s entry to the Yorkshire in Bloom 2012 competition was under scrutiny when judges visted on Thursday, April 12.

The city sparkled in the sunlight as the “In Bloom” gardening took judges Jackie and Chris Smith in a tour of the city’s floral highlights, including flower beds, planting pots around the market square and schools gardens, before finishing the morning with lunch in the Spa Gardens.

The results of the spring judging round will be revealed to the Ripon in Bloom volunteers when judges return to the city in July for the summer round of judging, before the final results of this year’s competition are announced in autumn.

In 2011 Ripon clinched first prize in the “Small City” category and took a silver gilt award for the floral efforts around the city.
