There was a pirate take over of the Community Fun Day at St John the Baptist Chapel on Bondgate in Ripon when the popular annual event was held.

A number of families braved the showery weather on Saturday, June 30, to do a treasure hunt in the surrounding area and all younger family members were rewarded with pirate treasure, consisting largely of chocolate.

Activities in the chapel featured a treasure map of Ripon (the pond near Ure Bank Top contained the hidden treasure), making a pirate mask and bookmark, and guessing how much pocket money Capt Jack Sparrow had saved for his Caribbean adventure.

The Mayor of Ripon, Coun Andrew Williams, visited the event where he met junior pirates Niamh and Sinead McBride.

Money raised by the event will be used to help refurbish the chapel, a development project recently launched by the congregation.
