Secrets of the Hairy Bikers

THEY'VE toured Britain and the rest of the globe, sampling its culinary delights along the way, serached for the country's very best baking, and swapped historic family recipes.

And now the celebrity food gurus are set to appear on the Harrogate stage as part of The Hairy Bikers' Big Night Out tour, where they will perform two shows promising inspired cooking, fascinating stories and hearty laughs.

Excited about their impending visit to Harrogate, Dave said: "It's fabulous. It's a proper spa town and you have got Bettys and Yorkshire food."

The boys' first venture onto the stage has already proved so popular, they have extended the tour through May.

"The theatre is a new discipline for us and it's great and going really well," said Dave. "On the Food Tour of Britain we were on the road for eight months and although four-and-a half million people watched the programme, you never saw them. But in the theatre the people are there to have a good time and it's great for us to see people that watch the shows."

Dave described the show as "a bloody good laugh" featuring a bit of singing and dancing and a lot of madness.

"It's a bit like the Hairy Bikers show but on stage," he said. "We will cook a nice meal and invite someone up on stage and have something nice to eat."

He was eager to point out that the show was not just about cookery. "It would be a bit dull to watch two fellas cook for two hours," he laughed. "We very much involve the audience. It's a very inclusive type of show and there are clips from our first screen test which have never been see before - it was absolutely appalling! We wanted to have a proper show and give people a proper night out."

The popular duo has already appeared on over 20 stages across the UK and Dave said the feedback so far had been fantastic.

He said they were really looking forward to doing their show at Harrogate Theatre.

"Harrogate will be great," he said. "Apparantly it's a really nice theatre. Si is familiar with it - in a former life he was a location manager in the the film industry and he filmed a Cadbury's commercial there years ago. It will be quite a buzz to be jumping up and down on that stage."

Dave wouldn't say what the pair would be cooking to avoid spoiling it for people, but revealed they would be using Yorkshire produce.

"It will be good food - a treat for the people that come up. There will also be some nice wine and some nice beer.

"Where ever we go we buy local produce. North Yorkshire is a county of plenty. When we did North Yorkshire in our Food Tour of Britain we had a fantastic time and it's got everything."

Dave loves Bettys and Yorkshire curd tarts and said the region had fantastic farm produce and game, as well as seafood from the east coast.

"The thing about Yorkshire is it's massive so you've got everything. It's a very generous county. The food is generous and it's generous portions as well."

Dave is hoping pay a visit to Bettys when he arrives, somewhere he and Si visited in 2008 when they filmed a Hairy Bakers Christmas special at the Starbeck bakery.

He said: "I'd love to pop into Bettys if I've got time and get a Yorkshire Fat Rascal and then try and jump around on stage - it's a must do!

"We are very excited to come to Harrogate. We love being in Yorkshire - the shows we have already done there have gone down a storm.

"We are very much looking forward to it - seeing some Yorkshire people and having some Yorkshire grub."

The Hairy Bikers will be at Harrogate Theatre on Wednesday, March 31 at 4pm and 7.30pm.

l Tickets cost 19.50 (17.50 concessions) and can be booked online at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk or through the Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116.
