REVIEW: Chatsworth Dance Centre

Love To Dance, The Chatsworth Dance Centre, Royal Hall, Harrogate.

THE grand back drop of the Royal Hall provided a fitting setting for a spectacular evening of music, song and dance.

The show began in style with an electric performance of "Radio Ga-Ga", the Queen classic. Inspired by the celebrated musical We Will Rock You the performance was given a futuristic edge as the dancers from the Modern and Musical Theatre classes took to the stage with panache.

Performances throughout the evening spanned a wide range of dance genres from the refined Ballet and Tap groups to the endlessly energetic Modern and Freestyle classes.

The music proved equally as diverse including beautiful and timeless pieces by Tchaikovsky, familiar musical theatre numbers from Annie and Bugsy Malone and modern chart hits by the likes of Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas.

The fantastic adaptation of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf by Mrs Atkinson provided the perfect platform from which the youngsters could develop their love for the beauty of classical ballet and music.

The colourful mix ensured there really was something for all the audience to enjoy, from proud parents and grandparents to enthralled brothers and sisters alike.

Dazzling costumes accompanied by sparkling hair and make-up helped all the young performers into character.

With age groups from four to eighteen and routines showcasing all levels of abilities it was a joy to watch so many talents shine on stage.

Particular highlights included the adorable Preparatory Ballet class' delightful performance of Once Upon a Dream, where many of the youngest dancers made their stage debuts (all be it with a little help and encouragement from Miss Jo!).

The magnificent Michael Jackson Medley culminated in a thrilling performance of Dirty Diana, where the older dancers proved why many of them will soon be furthering their dance dreams at stage schools around the country.

The evening was a resounding success not just because of the fabulous performances and exciting stage production but most importantly because the youngsters themselves made the night one to remember.

Over 1,400 friends, relatives and dance enthusiasts were lucky enough to see the show and The Chatsworth Dance Centre certainly showed them all just why they love to dance.
