Promising student artists to exhibit at The Station

Pupils from Bedale High School are to be given the chance to show and sell their art work with professional artists at Richmond’s The Station gallery.
Fifteen promising art students from schools in North Yorkshire, including Bedale High School, Wensleydale School, Richmond School and Polam Hall in Darlington, are to take part in “Landscapes of the Dales”; an exhibition at The Station, Richmond as part of this year’s Swaledale Festival, showing work inspired by the dramatic scenery of the northern Dales.
The 15 talented students have been hand picked to be mentored by one of the region’s best-known artists. Together the student and professional will produce a “pair” of works that will be hung and sold together. Purchasers will be able to buy any of the pairs via sealed bids, and the professional artist and the student will share the payment equally.
Station Gallery Manager Irene Lofthouse said: “We are delighted to be hosting this key event from the festival programme. The professional artists have each given their time and expert guidance generously and in return the students have worked extremely hard to meet their high expectations. As a result the quality of work is outstanding and it promises to be an exciting exhibition. The initiative taps into a rich vein of talent and with The Station attracting 350,000 visitors a year; it’s a dream opportunity for these up-and-coming student artists.”
Professional artists taking part in the initiative include Ken Jones, Andrea Hunter, Wendy Jones, Piers Browne, and Hester Cox. This will be the first time that their work will be hung and sold alongside that of a student in a venue as busy as The Station.
The exhibition runs on The Station’s Lower Platform from Saturday, May 19 until Thursday, June 7. Entry to the exhibition is free and The Station is open seven days a week, 9am-9pm. More details are available at www.thestation.co.uk
