The world of scouting collided with the world of James Herriot when ten cub scouts from Topcliffe spent a morning at the centre as part of a project by three Thirsk School sixth form students.

Working as the group ‘James Ladz’, the 17 year olds - Ali Adair, Ollie Tindall and Tom Hendry - won £250 from charity Keyfund to host a special ‘cubs day’. They had spent time at the Thirsk museum as part of their business studies course under a scheme to encourage young people to shadow jobs, get involved and offer opinions.

“We had a great day with the cub scouts,” said Ali.

“we showed them the centre, took them on a treasure hunt. Now we hope they will all return with their families”
