Pateley Bridge is preparing for the biggest event of the Dale’s calendar with the annual Nidderdale Show set to take place.

The show will kick off at the Nidderdale Showground in Pateley Bridge on Monday, September 24, with gates opening at 8am.

Organisers have their fingers crossed for fine weather, and after a summer of disappointments as rain put paid to many shows they are hoping for a boost to visitor numbers at what is traditionally the last agricultural show of the summer.

Show stewards are also looking forward to record entries in this year’s dog classes, with 1250 dogs set to take part a making this year’s dog show one of the busiesiet yet.

This year’s show has attracted judges from across the world to officiate at the Nidderdale classes.

Mr U Kristofferson from Sweden will be judging this year’s children’s ‘pet on a lead’ class, an other judges are coming from as far a field as Italy, Holland and Ireland.

Entries to “pets on a lead” can be made on the day and organisers are urging people to bring their pets - the more unusual the better.

All pets are welcome except sheep, horses and ponies.

The Yorkshire Dales Society has donated a cup to be awarded annually to the overall winner in the children’s pet classes and The Yorkshire Dales Society has given donate £50 towards prize money.

Class winners will take home a total of £23,000 in prize money and motorcycle display team the Inch Perfect Trials Display Team will entertain showgoers in the main ring, with action packed entertainment demonstrating their skills in balance and extreme control.

Musical entertainment will be provided this year by the Meltham and Meltham Mills Brass Band, along with local bands Lofthouse and Middlesmoor Silver Band and St Cuthbert’s Primary School Band.

Additional attractions include the long running local cricket match – this year between the Craven League XI v Nidderdale XI – Young Farmers Mascot Football and terrier racing along with all the usual attractions.

The show will also welcome Nidderdale photographer Paul Harris, who will run free ten minute portrait photography sessions for visitors, stall holders and performers in his tent The Gathering. The portaits will then be on at Studio 6 in Pateley Bridge.
