GIG SCENE: Live at Leeds acts unveiled

LIGHTSPEED Champion, Sunshine Underground and The Bronx have now been added to the bill for this year's Live at Leeds 2010, the city's biggest weekend of indie music of the year (except for Leeds Festival, perhaps).

Also joining headliners Wild Beasts from April 30-May 3 will be the likes of Esben & The Witch, Gold Panda, Loops Haunt, Ellen and the Escapades, 65daysofstatic, Egyptian Hip Hop and more.

And there's still 130 more live acts to be announced for Live at Leeds. Wristbands costing 15 are available now from lunatickets.co.uk, Crash and Jumbo in Leeds.

THE Quire Boys certainly have some dedicated fans! Knaresborough-based promoters Kula have been in touch to say that news of this weekend's show with the famous 80s rock band at the Frazer Theatre has reached the US.

A female fan has contacted them to say she needs directions to the theatre from New York and that, after the show, she need to go straight back home!

This Saturday's very up close and personal show, will see the band perform a special unplugged performance a la Foo Fighters' arena shows or Led Zeppelin in their 1970s hey-day.

Tickets are already being snapped up for the show on Saturday, March 6 which will see original members Spike and Guy 'Griff' Griffin play with keyboard player Keith Weir and guitarist Paul Guerin in a full band set-up with acoustic guitars replacing electric.

Tickets costing 18 are nearly sold out so you'd better get in quick.

They are available from PEAR (Knaresborough) and Rock Steady music (Harrogate) and online at www.kula-productions.co.uk

BOOK of Job, the exciting young metal band who returned to the Royal Hall in Harrogate recently as special guests of the AMP Awards, a year after they won it, continue to spread their rock wings further afield.

Having performed at The Cockpit in Leeds earlier this week, they're off to Manchester next Tuesday, March 9 compete in the heats of the popular Surface Unsigned Festival.

The band are about to release a seven-track EP recorded at Hellfire Studios in Birmingham.

BOTTOM of the Bottle's recent move to Revolution has turned out to be a good move for DJ Trev.

This long-running Harrogate rock music has become an institution for anyone under 25 years old (in spirit, as well as body!) for a decade now.

It's first night at Revolution was packed and great with the usual mix of original live music and modern rock/metal/punk and alternative sounds, we hear.

Now its founder and genial host DJ Trev is looking forward to BOTB's next night there this Sunday.

It should be a cracker - currently Harrogate's hottest band, Kasiuss are to headline, with support from Gig Scene favourites Drowned in Sound plus promising newish band Massive Taxi.

Doors open 9pm, bands 'til 11pm, DJ Trev on the decks 'til 3am plus, in Revolution's front bar, DJ Sixus playing dark and twisted dance music.

DJ Trev also has a new night at Moko in Harrogate on Tuesdays called Geek Chic where indie meets La Roux and Kings of Leon meet Journey!

Free entry until midnight.

THOSE sharp-eyed regulars of this column (and by that I assume everyone) will have noticed in last week's Gig Scene when referring to this July's HEARTS Community Festival which is launched with The Music Hall Ball on Friday, March 19 that where I should have said "at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate", I accidentally put Royal Hall. Wrong! For tickets costing 38 (including a champagne reception, three course meal and a full Music Hall Style show and dancing until midnight) vsit www.heartsfestival.co.uk or contact Kelly Gavaghan on 07982 443067.

IT'S turning out to be a vintage year for longstanding local promoters RipleyBlues.

Following their sellout Cajun event comes news that the extra Ian Parker date is also now a sellout.

The popular bluesman appears at Ripley Town Hall tomorrrow night and on Sunday, March 7 at 2pm.

We're told tickets are also going well for the Aynsley Lister Band on Saturday, March 20, so blues fans better get their skates on for that one, too.

Aynsley is another long term Ripley favourite having first appeared at the club in 2000.

He will be supported this time by the Dan Burnett Band.

He is one of the very few artists playing rocking blues with a modern edge and has been described by The Times as "superb." Tickets 10.00/12.00.

Other shows coming up at Ripley Town Hall include:

Ian Siegal (upstairs). May 22: Buddy Whittington Band. June 5: Lightnin' Willie & The Poorboys. July 17th: The Mods. August 6: King King (featuring lan Nimmo). Sept 11th: The Blues Band. Oct 23rd: British Blues Quintet & Dave Kelly. Nov 6: Doug Macleod (upstairs). Nov 20th: Dr Feelgood. Dec 18: Nine Below Zero.

Please contact RipleyBlues organiser Andy Herrington ASAP a t andy@ripleyblues.com or tel 01423 860340.

FRESH from a headlining show at The Cockpit in Leeds, popular Harrogate indie-rock band D'Nile have also recorded a radio session.

Liam Gray and the boys appeared on Yorkshire Radio last week with a session recorded earlier.

The band's next big date is the Royal Hall in Harrogate on Friday, March 19 where they will be giving fans with an insight into their forthcoming new album For tickets, tel 0845 130 8840 or visit www.harrogateboxoffice.co.uk

BASSISTS alert! UK internet forum Basschat which is an online group of nearly 9,000 bassists is having a big get-together in physical form in Harrogate shortly.

It's the group's annual Yorkshire bash and it will take place at The Manhattan Club on Beech Avenue on Sunday, March 21. The event runs from noon to 5pm and entry is free. Beginners are welcome to come along.
