Paintings by shortlisted entrants for the 2011 New Lights Art Prize will be on show at the Zillah Bell Gallery in Thirsk from February 2 to 16.

The exhibition also launches the opening for entries for the 2013 New Lights award, which aims to provide a springboard for emerging artists who were born, are living, or have trained in the North of England.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see a range of exciting work created by emerging artists, who include the winner of the first New Lights Award Nat Quinn, plus shortlisted artists Francesca Hudson, Matthew Child, Matthew Spencer, Freya Horsley, Lyndsey Jameson as well as work by entrant David Whitlam.

Annette Petchey, New Lights Chief Executive comments:
“We are delighted to work with Zillah Bell Gallery for this exhibition. The artists selected represent a cross section of the styles of work submitted for the last prize exhibition: landscapes, surrealism, abstract and figurative are all offered for sale. All of the works are terrific examples of their styles, and demonstrate the high quality of work the region is famous for.”

The deadline for entries for the second New Lights Art Prize is 31 May 2013. Artists must be aged between 23 and 35 years and be born, based or educated in the historic counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northumberland, Durham or Cumbria.

Artists are invited to submit wall-hung work in a wide range of media: from prints, drawings and paintings to mixed media, but excluding photography. Full details can be found on www.newlights.org.uk.
